2025 Culture Champion Award

Congratulations to our 2025 Culture Champion Award recipients, Will Robbins and Larissa Smerer.

In 2023, Olympic Steel’s ONE OLYMPIC Team grew to include members of five subcommittees: Communications & Engagement, Recruiting & Selection, Measuring Effectiveness, Training & Education, and Program & Policy Review. The teams work together, and with others across the organization, to realize the Team’s Mission:

We believe in cultivating an inclusive workplace where employee belonging and empowerment are foundational to everything we do. The unique insights and experiences of our diverse teams are what fuel our safe, profitable growth.

Nominated by their peers, the Culture Champion Award recognizes a team member for their leadership in being a champion and role model for the Team’s Mission. This year we recognized two recipients:

  • Will Robbins, Operations Project Manager at Olympic Steel’s Minneapolis, MN division and the Lead for the Training & Education Subcommittee
  • Larissa Smerer, Office Coordinator at CTI’s St. Paul, MN branch and a member of the Training & Education Subcommittee

The Training and Education Committee developed and maintains the ONE OLYMPIC Continuing Education Credit (CEC) Library. The CEC Library gives access and opportunities to Leaders across the Olympic Steel Family of Brands to learn new leadership skills and perspectives. This collection of resources takes a lot of work to maintain; the Training & Education Subcommittee has done a great job of reviewing and updating content and regularly adding new material.

Besides focusing efforts related to collecting content for the library with a submission, review and scoring system, Will created a digital tracking tool that’s easily accessible by all Olympic Steel Leaders completing CECs. Larissa took the lead in reviewing and removing older content and reorganizing the library to improve ease of navigation. Together, Will and Larissa have both put significant work into our CEC resources, in addition to their day-to-day responsibilities.

Each of them received a desktop award and will have a $250 donation made to a charity of their choice.

Congratulations, Will and Larissa, and thank you for the work you do to make Olympic Steel a great place to work.
