DEI Council Member Spotlight - Elvira Mendez

A member of the Recruiting and Selection DEI sub-committee, Elvira Mendez brings a fresh perspective to any situation through her Hispanic roots and optimistic attitude.

In 2023, Olympic Steel reached a significant milestone in our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion(DEI) efforts by establishing employee run DEI Council Sub-Committees. These individuals volunteered to take part in this work, in addition to their regular job duties, because they each wanted to make a positive impact on our Company.

Elvira Mendez, Traffic Coordinator, McCullough Industries (Kenton, OH)

 

Elvira Mendez is approaching her two-year anniversary with McCullough Industries. In her short time here, she’s finding ways to get involved and have an impact locally and across the Company. Elvira is a member of the Recruiting and Selection Committee.

 

Q: Share a unique fun fact or characteristic about yourself.

A:  I love strawberry print and pastel pink. I’m also bilingual!


Q:  When it comes to work, what’s your superpower? What special skill do you offer to support your co-workers/team?

A:  Being empathic toward others and maintaining a positive attitude in any situation.


Q:  What motivated you to become a DEI Council Member?

A:  I was excited for the opportunity to add my unique perspective to our team.


Q:  What’s your favorite thing about being an Olympic Steel employee?

A:  I always feel valued and heard by my team.


Q:  In your opinion, what's a simple action everyone can take to make our Company a   welcoming workplace?

A:  Promoting respect and listening to one another.


Q:  What cultural/heritage celebration or tradition holds special meaning for you? Mind sharing why?

A:  Hispanic family values - spending quality time with family.
