Shannon Brashear, Service & Scheduling Manager, Olympic Steel, Mount Sterling, KY
Selfless Corporate Citizen. Believes Teamwork is an important part of success. Sees challenges as learning opportunities.
Shannon began her career at Olympic Steel in January 2014. During her almost 12 years with the Company, she’s worked in the inside sales and scheduling departments, most recently as Service and Scheduling Manager.
“I have worn many hats and learned so much from each of the roles I’ve done,” says Shannon. “But I’m most proud of my involvement with our division’s Make-A-Wish efforts over the years. Each year brings a new excitement for ‘sharing the power of a wish.’ and I’m honored to be part of the process to bring awareness and support to a great organization.”
Jeremy Thiessen, General Manager for Olympic Steel’s Mount Sterling division, says “Shannon is a natural leader. Since Kentucky has a small administrative staff, Shannon leads her own team to succeed and participates in all other functional groups to ensure we provide the best customer service possible. Aside from her busy role at Olympic Steel, Shannon is active in her community and local schools, volunteering at the high school and serving as the Parent Site Base Member for the local school district. She is a terrific coworker and an amazing person.”
Shannon credits her team and Jeremy’s leadership for helping her as she’s developed her career. She elaborates, “Our team in Mount Sterling is phenomenal. Teamwork makes the dream work, and I wouldn’t trade my team for anything. And, Jeremy has been an unbelievable mentor to me over the years. He’s provided opportunities to develop my career, and his faith in me to get the job done keeps me motivated to drive our success.”
When asked which Core Value she best represents, Shannon said she has a hard time choosing one: “Obviously, Teamwork is important to me – my success is a direct result of the team that works with me. And Respect is a big one for me – I believe every person deserves to be treated respectfully, and I hold myself to that same standard.”
Referring to a quote attributed to Confucius, Shannon says, “’Do something you love and you will never work a day in your life.’ That’s how I feel about my job. I look forward to coming to work and would keep coming back, even if I won the lottery!”
Although she encounters the occasional challenge, Shannon views those challenges as opportunities to learn and get better. And she offers this advice to others who also want to develop a strong career with Olympic Steel: “Be a team player! Teamwork is an important part of being successful. Do your best, no matter the task, and always give 110%.”
