Creating Better Connections

Our IT Teams have made significant progress integrating systems, enhancing cybersecurity, and improving data accessibility to support collaboration across the organization. These efforts will help employees work more efficiently, strengthen customer service, and create new opportunities for business growth.

Across the organization, Ryerson and Olympic Steel teams have been working together to be more efficient and utilize best practices between the Ryerson Family of Companies. Take this synergy spotlight as an example.

How It Started

Since the merger of Ryerson and Olympic Steel earlier this year, our joint IT team has been working hard to determine the best ways to connect our digital systems. Coming together as one company means enabling collaboration and leveraging the expertise of all our service centers, and the integration of technology is key to making that happen.

Synergy Success

Making information more accessible across our technology and data management platforms is a top priority for IT. To date, approximately 90% of Olympic Steel’s inventory and transaction data has already been added to Ryerson’s information systems, which will allow us greater visibility across our systems to share inventory and operate more efficiently together.

Our IT groups have also teamed up to evaluate existing tools for cost-saving opportunities and to resolve roadblocks to potential system integrations. As we look ahead, a high-level enterprise roadmap has been developed to help us lay out our merged technology plans for the future.

Of paramount importance is cybersecurity, and additional controls are being put in place to allow Ryerson and Olympic Steel to safely share information across our networks and collaborate via our various platforms, making it easier than ever for our teams to work together.

As progress on these initiatives continues, the IT team is working together to share resources and partnering to cover projects across the organization. In August, team leaders from both legacy companies had the opportunity to collaborate directly at an in-person strategic planning meeting.

What It Means for You

The work being done by our IT team is critical to helping you connect with your Ryerson or Olympic Steel counterparts to improve efficiency and provide great customer experiences. No matter your role, better communication across our systems means time savings, improved collaboration, and more opportunities to grow our business!
