Teamwork in Tulsa
Tulsa-area teams across the Ryerson Family of Companies combined recruiting resources for a successful hiring event, strengthening staffing and developing a pipeline of skilled operators to support new business.
Since the merger in February, Ryerson and Olympic Steel teams have been working together to be more efficient and utilize best practices between the Ryerson Family of Companies. Curious what kind of successes we’re seeing? Look no further than this synergy spotlight!
How It Started
Ryerson – Tulsa and Central Tube and Bar (CTB) are neighbors, located directly across the street from each other. A recently awarded job will utilize production capabilities at both facilities. To fulfill those production requirements, both locations needed to increase their staff. With both facilities supporting the upcoming project, the teams combined their recruiting efforts to address the staffing needs together.
Synergy Success
Team members from Ryerson and Olympic Steel’s Pipe and Tube business segment, CTB and Chicago Tube & Iron (CTI), worked together to plan a job fair. They shared recruiting strategies and combined local resources to attract a larger pool of candidates. The event included representatives from both organizations, tours, giveaways and onsite interviews. It was promoted locally and on social media.
Tammy Hayes, HR Manager at CTB, says “The collaboration improved the hiring process by combining resources, expanding candidate reach and helping both facilities build staffing to support the new business.”
Ryerson and Central Tube and Bar continue to work as a team to make connections with students and school leaders in the area, including the Tulsa Technology Center, to develop a pipeline of skilled labor for both facilities. Since the job fair, both locations have also attended a Job Fair together at the University of Tulsa.
