Megan Ryan
Steve Brown, Operations Manager, Integrity Stainless, Streetsboro, OH
Partnership-focused manager. Transforming the employee experience. Leads with authenticity.
Since joining Olympic Steel in 2018, Megan Ryan, Regional Human Resources Manager, has built her career through a combination of curiosity, collaboration and a passion for solving challenges. From Corporate Recruiting Specialist to Talent Acquisition Manager and, most recently Regional HR Manager, Megan transformed each role into opportunities for growth, leadership and impact across the organization.
Prior to joining Olympic Steel, Megan gained valuable experience in third-party recruiting, supporting Toyota and Toyota-affiliated organizations. A graduate of the University of Kentucky with a bachelor's degree in English, the journey has been shaped by both professional ambition and the support of others along the way.
Reflecting on her accomplishments, changing our pre-employment process stands out as a defining moment that transformed how new employees are brought into the organization. Megan explains, "We wanted a more efficient and responsive onboarding program for our divisions. The changes we implemented have had a big impact on everyone and how we hire people. Being able to improve a process that benefited hiring managers and candidates throughout the organization was incredibly rewarding."
While professional achievements are important, Megan is quick to acknowledge that it’s the people and programs that have helped make her successes possible.
"You don't have the path I had without support from the team, especially the continued encouragement and mentorship from Cassy [Powers, VP - HR] and Chelsea [Coleman, Director – HR]," said Megan. The company's tuition reimbursement program also provided an opportunity to continue growing professionally. Last year, Megan earned her SHRM (Society of HR Management) certification with the help of the tuition reimbursement program.
“Megan consistently exemplifies a care for employees and the business that is unmatched. She has accomplished a lot since 2018, and no matter the task, Megan demonstrates our Core Values on a daily basis and is always a true team player,” says Chelsea Coleman, Director – Human Resources.
When asked which of Olympic Steel's Core Values she best represents and why, Megan said this: “I identify with Integrity. It's always been my favorite. In my position, everything I influence is visible. Being transparent in how we handle situations is really important to me – Integrity extends beyond honesty. It is also about accountability and authenticity.”
Megan believes approaching every situation with Integrity and being able to admit when you're wrong is crucial. "Having Integrity helps build authentic relationships with people across the company,” she explains.
Those relationships are a major reason why coming to work each day remains rewarding.
"It's partnership," Megan says. "Within my own department, I can rely on coworkers and bounce ideas off them. And that spirit of collaboration extends throughout the entire organization."
For those just beginning their careers at Olympic Steel, Megan’s advice is simple but powerful: stay open-minded, ask questions and build relationships.
"Don't be afraid to speak up," she says. "Our culture encourages curiosity and communication, creating opportunities for employees to learn from one another. Build rapport with people in different departments–the more relationships you develop across the organization, the better. And most importantly, insert yourself into situations. Get involved, learn from others and take advantage of opportunities when they come your way."
