ONE OLYMPIC - CEC Library

Spotlighting the team that helps unify, strengthen and elevate Olympic Steel to empower teammates and ensure our Company remains a great place to work!

At Olympic Steel, our culture is one of our greatest strengths. It’s built on strong Core Values, and the belief that every team member deserves to feel valued, included and empowered. That belief is the driving force behind the ONE OLYMPIC Team – Olympic Steel’s culture and inclusion group dedicated to strengthening engagement and belonging across all divisions.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT – Continuing Education Credit (CEC) Library

Leaders play an important role in the work of the ONE OLYMPIC Team. They shape our Company culture by modeling expected behaviors and Core Values and reinforcing them through their decisions and actions. Leaders influence how team members interact, perform, and contribute to the workplace environment.

Understanding this, the ONE OLYMPIC Team has worked to provide training, tools and support for Leaders across the Olympic Steel Family of Companies since the earliest days of the program. An ongoing resource for continuous Leader development is the Continuing Education Credit (CEC) Library.

Leaders have a lot of responsibility and limited time, and everyone learns differently. With that in mind, the CEC Library was developed to provide flexible learning opportunities for anyone in the organization charged with leading a team.

The CEC Library offers a wide range of learning approaches and topics, including informative articles, books, video clips, podcasts, reference documents and other types of media, so Leaders can choose the approach that best suits their availability and learning style. The library covers a wide range of leadership topics, from developing team culture and managing change to supporting different generations in the workplace and improving communication skills.

Leaders are able to learn at their own pace. Depending upon the type of media and the approximate time commitment, resources are assigned a “credit” value, and all Leaders across the organization are assigned a specific Performance Management goal in our HR Information System (HRIS) to complete 10 CECs each year.

The ONE OLYMPIC Training & Education Sub-Committee leads the effort to evaluate and add new resources to the library throughout the year, with contributions from across the ONE OLYMPIC Team. Library content is vetted against specific criteria to ensure it is non-political in nature and supports Olympic Steel’s Leadership learning objectives. Scores are assigned based on the time necessary to consume the content and overall user experience, grading aspects of the materials, such as how engaging they are. The best submissions are added to the Library and made available to Leaders via a Microsoft Teams site.

Why This Matters

Ongoing leadership training helps leaders strengthen their skills, adapt to changing business needs, and lead teams more effectively. Continuous development enables them to make better decisions, foster team member’s growth, and sustain a positive organizational culture.
