Summer Safety Celebrates Teamwork and Drives Engagement
Our first Summer Safety event was a big success – promoting teamwork and finding new ways to get involved in keeping each other safe. Congratulations to the winners and everyone who participated!
From mid-June to mid-August, Ryerson and Olympic Steel teammates shifted their focus to hand and material handling hazards as part of Summer Safety 2026. Collectively, we completed 4,913 events related to safety including identifying hazards, implementing solutions and training employees. Of those events, 1,441 events were employee-led learning sessions related to hand or material handling hazards.
Aimee Nash, Ryerson Director of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS), said, “This event showed fabulous employee engagement! As we roll through the end of summer and into fall, please continue to carry what you accomplished in the summer through the rest of the year.”

- Third-Highest Score Overall: Arabian Team, Olympic Steel – Winder, GA
Wrapping up our first experience with Summer Safety, Tony Dominic, Olympic Steel VP – EHS, wants us to remember that our safety journey is just that – a journey. As long as we’re continuously learning and sharing ways to minimize our risks, then we’re moving in the right direction. He explains, “The Summer Safety campaign provided us with opportunities to promote teamwork and drive engagement – and we did that. Let’s keep working together to identify and support ways to put Safety First all year long.”
