Ryerson & Olympic Steel Become ONE COMPANY
Integration work is underway and will take time, as teams meet, share information and bring together the best from both organizations. In the meantime, let’s learn more about Ryerson!
Our historic merger with Ryerson has closed, and the work to become ONE COMPANY is underway. Several departments and functional teams have already begun meeting to introduce team members and share best practices. (In case you missed it, check out clips from the March 11 webcast for updates on the work the Finance, Supply Chains, Commercial / Sales, Communications / Marketing, and IT teams have done since the merger closed. Those webcast clips and other useful merger info are available on the Merger Central page of IamOlympicSteel.com.)
The integration work will take some time, as teams meet, share information and bring together the best from both organizations. In the meantime, let’s learn more about Ryerson…
Learn More About Ryerson
Ryerson has an impressive history, spanning more than 182 years of continuous operations. Here’s a look at where it all began: https://youtu.be/mFLpB22mezQ?si=zacT8a7ovljT9vjH
Prior to merging with Olympic Steel, Ryerson had approximately 100 locations across North America and China, 4,000 employees, more than 35,000 customers and over 75,000 products, including stainless, aluminum, carbon, alloys, brass and copper.
While our products and services are similar in some ways, there are a few notable (and exciting) differences. Ryerson’s footprint extends further west across the United States and, globally, into Canada, Mexico and China. In addition, ryerson.com, the company’s website, offers customers a robust e-commerce experience for efficient, mobile-friendly 24/7 online quoting, buying, and invoice payment.
Ryerson also hosts “Cup O’ Joe: A Metal Podcast,” the first Thursday of each month at 2:30 PM CT. (“Joe” isn’t only a play on the popular morning beverage but also a nod to the Company’s founder, Joseph T. Ryerson.) The podcast is available at https://jtryerson.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_EqKyxlkeQZ2TT-N4lOHuKg#/registration or wherever you get your favorite podcasts.
Not unlike Olympic Steel, Ryerson prides itself on being a reliable source for market intelligence (including its Monthly Market Report) and deploying systems and technology (like Ideagen – the same Safety software we’re implementing now at Olympic Steel) to support internal teams and deliver great customer experiences. These similarities (as well as the differences highlighted above) present exciting opportunities to partner and grow.
